Ring worms are often confused with a coin shaped rash called nummular eczema by primary care doctors. A way to tell them apart is ring worm will have clearly defined circular boarders that are elevated and the center of the rash will be clear. Commonly, people with ring worm may have recently traveled or used a public shower or gym. On the other hand, nummular eczema will have many itchy red coin shaped lesions. The treatment for eczema is very different than ring worm so be sure to see a specialist  to confirm the diagnosis if your rash is not improving.
